Jon's Scatty Spots

Postby Jon » Thu Mar 28, 2013 1:27 pm

Watcher fellas, thought I'd bosh up some pics I've taken recently, after a bit of non-spotting of late. Hopefully a dedicated thread rather than a lazy yearly round-up will give me the incentive to take my camera out more but only time will tell tbh.

Let's start things off gingerly with a couple which slipped through the net from last year. The genuine patina justifies the otherwise boring subject, I think:

On to last weekend, we visited the Beach Hop, an event held at a coastal tourist town which sees (mostly) classic US car owners gathering for a 5 day long celebration of all things 1950's and 1960's. By 'all things', I mean of course hot rods, dancing and grease-style music; about as accurate a portrayal of the era as the questionable mods to many of the cars.

Image

This one was ace, granted.

Image

This is the worst that I could draw myself to photograph but gives you the idea. Efforts like this were far outweighed by much more professional, expensive and repulsive versions though.

Image

Perfect antidote.

Image

Love the dustbin lids.

Image

Image

At first I hated this but then discovered it was based on a Hilux chassis! Took the time to look closely and it had some lovely detailing but I think it'd look even better on steel wheels.

Image

Oooh.

Image

Worthy of two shots, I reckon. Was for sale for 'offers over $0'

Image

Image

Image

Not as cool as the real thing but I'd be lying if I couldn't see the appeal, especially in that setting.

Image

Image

Skinny steels denote 1.9 4 cylinder engine. HOT PURSUIT VEHICLE

Image

Image

Getting a bit common now. Can't say I have any interest in any Falcons prior to this model.

Image

Image

A rare ute I assume, wherever you are in the world.

Image

Obviously unaware of the 'less is more' concept.

Image

I've never seen a Z3 on bottle tops but reckon it works very well. Bet it'd look even better on some 70's BMW steels.

Image

OSF or OFS (One For Seth)?

Image

Image

One for start, since he seems to have never seen a Sierra Sapphire over here. Note comedy exhaust extension.

Image

Nice Charger but the Camaro in the background epitomises most owners' idea of tasteful wheels, sadly.

Image

I'm very partial to an HQ Holden but the whitewalls and lowering to this one leave me cold.....

Image

This one though is absolutely spot-on and my personal favourite car of the day. Have 2 shots to celebrate.

Image

PHWOAR!

Image

Image

Lovely Girls. Kenjonbro, eat your heart out.

Spotted this on the way to the show and knew I'd have to stop on the way home for a gander, just in case the sale price was within budget. Sadly not but what a bobby dazzler.

Image

Other than putting back a door mirror, I don't think there's a single thing I'd change to this. It even appealed to Mrs_Jon who is now absolutely convinced that one of these would be a viable camper van proposition. Once again, no apologies for two shots.

Image

Just a shame they were asking $12000 but I reckon if I had that amount of disposable income, I'd be sorely tempted.

Superb spots!
I got caught perving over them at work today, by a lass who is from that part of the world. It was quite hard to explain...

Would love a ratty Falcon Tone but I'm assuming that the offers over $0 sign was a bit of a way to lure interested punters and I wouldn't be surprised if they were expecting high four figures for it; Think Mk1 Granada prices plus a bit more for porridge, plus a shed-load more if it's any sort of performance model (seven figures aren't unheard of for perfect GTHO models with provenance...)

Always hard to explain perving at old cars on the internet I.K.! I suppose I'd be seen as worse for actually taking the effort to upload them. Maybe just scanning pornography at work would be more socially acceptable?

I would have had another couple of spots to add to the collection today, had I not left my memory card in the card reader, rather than my camera after I uploaded the Beach Hop spots....

Excellent spots Jon, which look all warm too. The photo of the Fiat 500 looks almost like it could have been taken in about 1965

I'd say that rather than not knowing when to stop, this

Image

is taking queues from the Lowrider 'Bomb' style where period accessories are generally a good thing.
Not Always Auto

Rootes built Cortinas under licence and just changed the badging.
