Wheels Day (also inc. doors, engines, seats, bonnets etc)

Postby Barrett » Fri Mar 29, 2013 7:12 pm

Wheels Day really lived up to its name, there were LOADS of wheels there. Some of them were even attached to cars! Here's a small selection of some, as a taster before Seth gets here with his proper photos.

There was just about every permutation possible of Model T & A (fnar!) there; High-boys, buckets, rats, So-Cal, Hi-Tech etc. These are sort of indicative of the better end of the spectrum

The Andy Saunders Panhard made a welcome appearance. I'll leave you to come up with your own jokes

Nice 'Public Information Film circa 1976' line-up
Image

This thing is like a great painting, the closer you look the more is revealed to you. It really is a thing of beauty.
Image

Evil looking Merc. Hard to do anything new with such an iconic car, this one had the look of a proper '50s custom that had been pulled out of storage. It was probably contrived but I don't really care, it looked incredible

I really want a Standard 8/10. Probably not this one though.

PT Cruisers were out in force. Look at the subtle custom finish on this fine example
Image

Let's have another look
Image

Lovely. Here's another equally great one, on the OC stand
Image

This guy helpfully had his doors pinned open so the punters could get a close look at the incredible interior work, including a tasteful re-imagining of American Graffiti with this very same PT Cruiser taking the place of Harrison Ford's '57 Chevy. Which is good, because nobody liked that car anyway.
Image

There were actually some nice cars there too. This pugfaced Merc was pretty incredible
Image

Sole survivor I believe
Image

Two of my favourite old Yank sedans
Image

And I think I'll leave it here with this beautifully presented Thames, running a mid-mounted V8. Excellent.

Hoow do I go to my thread ? How do I find my forum ? Howdo I go to the page I am typing?

That custom Merc is more likely a 1950 Lincoln, just fyi. Some really neat content, these photographs are proper enough for me.

Great photos. Some spectacular bleakness however!

Am I wrong in thinking that the Panhard has modern PSA running gear?

Cresta estate is a superb spot, bet you'd be constantly worried about showgoers in rigger boots and hi-viz taking too much interest.
ISTR seeing one of those get banger raced on Blue Peter in the early 80's. Possibly by NOAKES.

Har har, Barrett in car spotting fail. As Vulga says that's a Lincoln. Yes Len, the Panhard is Citroen floorpan'd.

A quality morning/bit of afternoon out. Good photos Barrett. I shall be along with some later this evening.

Apparently Andy Saunders drove the Panhard there, Dan (off RR) was chatting to him.

Here's some of my photos then, in no particular order as improved Pbucket still hasn't worked that simple task out.

The Scatter's choice of ADO15

LIMITED

A rather lovely fastback VW that no one could complain was too low to be practical yet looked superb.

Image

Here is the best Anglia. In fact as we stood there looking at it the owner appeared and Barrett collared him by telling him it was the best Anglia we'd ever seen. There then continued a conversation about cool old wheels.

The Moto-Scat collective.

Inappropriate wheels #1

Image

Barrett avoids a potentially embarrassing situation involving skid marks.

Image

A Datsun.

Image

An Oldsmobile. I want one of those aerials.

Image

What is Point of making a big car only a bit smaller but still big.

Image

GC + Allegro.

Image

Flathead lowlight Minor was ace.

Image

Image

I pondered the possibilities of which Mk3 Cortina Owners Club this was. Or maybe it was 5 different ones.

Image

Nice Muff.

Image

This Beetle was exceptionally cool.

Image

Image

Lorries. Definitely not trucks.

Image

Here's under the Ponnet of the Banhard.

Image

Straight out of Car Mechanics circa 1965

There were lots of Minis.

Image

Oddly no stetsons in this shot.

Image

Image

Transit camper.

Image

Fitting* hood ornament.

Image

This is a Plymouth that does a load of the local shows with R+R music playing out of a stereo and a miniature Elvis figure stood in front. Its got a great steering wheel though.

Anyone for Ice Cream? No?

Inappropriate wheels #2

Image

I had the fortune* to cruise down the A3 with this, hoping that no-one would associate me with the owners and their Hillbilly stickers and dangling chrome gonads.

Image

Wide track 100E. I suspect FWD.

Image

Have a polishing Cortina owner giving me a suspicious eye to end with.
