Well, apart from the huge air leak everything seems to be working. All 6 cylinders fire, the idle control valve bravely tries to keep it running, unplugging the TPS or the MAF makes it stop dead. I can't test the gearbox until I can drive it though  so keep fingers crossed for tomorrow.

On the plus side, I'm getting faster at stripping the inlets. Only took 20 minutes this time!

Couldn't get injector seals, or the right size O rings so I cleaned the old ones and put them back. Everything back together, tried the starter, engine starts easily and settles to a smooth idle (smoother than it was before - no more up - down - try to stall -recover nonsense. So I cleared a path to back it out.

Around 5.30 I finally got a drive, ABS/TC light went out as soon as the car moved forwards, the gearbox behaves itself impeccably. I've left the battery connected, so tomorrow is when I find out if it still drains overnight. Still, looks like june 1st on the cards for taxing and the sierra will be retiring the same day.

Battery still had life in it today (unlike the batteries in my camera...) so we put some petrol in and went for a drive around. Lovely. :D

17.5mpg so far! All short trips with big hills though.

I've also been keeping an eye on it for more electrical gremlins with this

Which is a very versatile and useful android app when combined with a £10 ebay car adapter. There isn't enough memory on the amstrad to store lots of log data...
