Had a couple of spare hours this afternoon, so I started stripping the spares car.

And here's that loom! It looks like I can get away without removing the engine and box, but will need the exhausts off and the gearbox lowered. Not TOO bad (I hope).

In not so good news, I noticed while removing that this loom is also very hard and inflexible. I'm going to ring Ford in the morning to see if the engine loom is still available as a part but if not I'll be checking this one VERY carefully for insulation breaks before fitting it.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE.

One of these is the loom on the estate, showing all the signs of cracked insulation death. The other is the "good" loom with the "improved" insulation that NEVER goes bad that I spent all afternoon extracting* from the donor car.

*it's still trapped! Bah, mumble etc. I couldn't even ring Ford to find out if the loom is still available, and if so how much because the 'phone at the garage has stopped working too. More mumble, bah YUNO etc etc.

I think I'll be making a custom loom that runs somewhere sensible. That seems the best idea at the moment. That, and some cold beer.

Well, combined with the fugly looks, zero resale value, high fuel consumption and rigger booted morons wanting to rape them for the engine I'm surprised there are ANY left!

I think only the 24v suffers from this particular wiring situation, the 4 cyl cars have the same loom but it's in a more wiring friendly (IE not hot!) place around the inner wing, and the 12v V6 has the old granada non electric box and management that noah would recognise.

Tonight's quiz...

How much do Ford want for the engine/gearbox loom?

There is a prize, but not the one seth is thinking of.

More later when I get back to my laptop - currently posting from a binatone kidstar android tab. It's great*
