Right, here's some more photos of exactly the same cars then.

Yeah, The best flame shot I got were not from the car I actually was hoping for.

Image

Image

It was still wonderful to see (and hear) the dominant Sauber Mercedes though.

Image

I was imagining this guy scoffing little sweets as he drove round.

Image

On to the Pre-'61 Sports Jobs for the Stirling Moss trophy for not quite winning top prize.

Well-Ard

Image

Image

Image

Incorrect direction of travel.

Image

The Lister Jaguar #60 was streets ahead of everyone else, so smooth.

Image

After lunch, pre-war cars from the fairly rubbish vantage point of the start line grandstand. Was ace at the start though, the noise & smell!

Image

Donington best for not driving 24 hours to see racing Bugattis actually racing.

Image

Image

Image

This is an ERA I think. They generally win everything in very old car racing.

Image

The end (of that race)

Image

So to the tin-tops, sadly cut short as already mentioned. Racing was superb to watch up until that point.

Image

Image

Image

This Falcon was the dominant car this time.

Image

Image

BMW did a sterling job of mixing it with the V8s though.

Image

I think was my favourite livery.

Image

Image

Image

I think this Mustang was being piloted by Whizzo Williams at this point.

Image

And so we end with the plane shot.

Image

My first time watching racing at Donington and it was top notch. Easy to get to, easy to get out from even though everyone left at once, excellent facilities, viewing and photographic possibilites. Recommended ****

Not Always Auto

Rootes built Cortinas under licence and just changed the badging.

This:

had to be the most determined guy there, as his Mini appeared to be on fewer than 4 wheels for a very large proportion of the time. Even in the long sweeping curve where we were stationed he had the back wheel cocked, pretty much every lap, as captured by SethSan.
