Hirst's Madcap Adventure (Thornes Park 2013)

Postby Hirst » Fri Jul 05, 2013 11:56 pm

I went to Thornes Park on the way home today in order to see some quality vehicles and burger vans. Here is some of the stuff I done saw.

Image
Porsche 944 by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

This was a group of vehicles which looked to be some sort of classic car sales type thing, they'd brought a small gazebo with them in order to look like they had some kind of established premises I think.

Image
Daimler Sovereign by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

This Daimler Sov was very nice, sadly one of the spectators on the left burst into flames and the car was destroyed forever. Anyway, I-

JESUS CHRIST!

Image
BMW 318is by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

This had a Union Flag painted on the bonnet last year, now it doesn't. Suppose he got sick of the EDL having marches around it.

Image
BMW 316 by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

I prefer E21s anyway, but I'd take some pleasure in wheelspinning over the seat covers in this case, still superb though.

Image
Volkswagen Golf LD by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

Golf LD! Will it escape the scene? Is it fast enough to escape the scene?

Image
Subaru 284 4WD 1800 Pickup by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

I'm sure I've seen this before but these are nearly all red and I have dreadful memory from destroying my brain with drink probably.

Image
Ford Galaxie 500 by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

YEAH! Pretend New Joisey plates too, an ideal inconspicuous vehicle for "whacking" somebody.

Image
Buick Eight by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

Dental Plan! LISA NEEDS BRACES

Image
Ford Escort XR3 by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

"Look kids, I used to have one of them!" "What daddy, an Escort?" "No... a tyre..." (bursts into tears)

Image
Wolseley Six by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

A luxury car with all that door interchangeability you've come to expect.

Image
Ford Fairlane 500 by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

This was very smart, probably one of the easiest cars ever to turn into a convertible.

Image
Vauxhall Omega Police Car by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

Boo! Hiss! It's a bit like seeing a deactivated electric chair, you know it can't really do anything, but that doesn't stop it giving you a real chill.

Image
Vauxhall Omega Police Car Strobe Settings by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

Next row down had "BE USELESS", "EAT A PIE", "STARE ANGRILY FOR NO REASON", "CLAIM OVERTIME".

Image
Vauxhall Nova Merit by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

Meanwhile, this vehicle had a lot of Merit. Love those little half hubcaps.

Image
Bedford HA: BT Duo by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

One of my favourite vehicles of last year evidently has been breeding, which is absolutely fine by me. Another dozen and I'll forgive them for making the BT Infinity advert with the nerdy guy getting a far too good-looking girlfriend from the Internet, it's just too unbelievable.

Image
Mercedes-Benz 220 by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

This Merc was relaxing under some trees, not really part of the show. Some cars are cool enough to do that.

Image
Citroen CX by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

Like this CX, which pays absolutely no heed to "stance" and things like that.

Image
Ford Transit by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

Meanwhile, back in the show proper, this exceptionally clean Transit with sliding door would have been just the job to do over Barclays Bank.

Image
Ford Transit by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

BUMP FOR A REAL THREAD, WOULD ANYONE LIKE SOME WINE?

Image
Austin Maestro 1.3 L by Dan Hirst?, on Flickr

And this pretty damn immaculate Maestro 1.3 L provides all the executive refinement we need to take us into part two, which is coming later.

Alright? Alright. Bye then. Yeah. Bye. Yep. Yep. OK. See ya. Yep. OK. Right. Bye then. Bye. Buh-bye. LOOK JUST GO.

Enjoyable, mostly for the Hirst captions.

Is that a BMW 8-series under the gazebo? I have a strange desire for one, I think they look great.

This was posted on the Brown Car Appreciation Society page on facebook recently. Maybe the Golf LD driver could complete a similar journey in the UK; drive from Washington, Tyne and Wear to the original York, not the fancy new one that they have now, and back.
Apparently 'real world' performance of the Golf Diesel is similar to the smallest petrol engine, so fairly slow but still keeps up with traffic. It'd probably be quite peppy with the later 1.9 diesel out of a Mk3 Golf, more so with a turbo.
Creeping 'scene' number plates worrying.

Good work, D_Hirst.
I am not sure whether to be more excited by the space van or the brace of HA's - both are properly delightful

Len - you should deffo invest in an 850i - surely ticks all the boxes of a miserly, high mileage chainsaw fanatic. ;)

Yeah it was an 8-Series, I like them too but I couldn't get a picture as I didn't want to get too close in case there were some wannabe Mike Brewer types there going 'OLD OUT YOUR 'AAAAAND etc.

They 'did' a diesel 7-series of the same era for FOREN markets I think, so I'm sure that engine would drop straight in*.

The 8-series would be better admired if it wasn't so anonymous to look at.

Nice reportage, Reg.

I think an 8 series would really suit a friend of mine but he hasn't bought one yet.
Not Always Auto

Rootes built Cortinas under licence and just changed the badging.
