The annual homage to Herbert & William's finest took place at the weekend; I won't insult your intelligence by telling you names of cars you're probably more familiar with than your own family, but there were some unusual cars on show.

The Morris Six on the right packed a Mercedes Ponton punch:

The Historics@Brooklands Classic Car Auction was on Saturday, so there were a few gatecrasher to the Longbridge-Cowley love-in:

Yes, its a 500E. Yes, I want it:

Only on a 2CV could a yellow vinyl interior be acceptable, nay desirable:

Off-tour, but still great. These were near the AC Heritage building:

Thats Vek in the background perusing a Morris 8 for sale. Uh-huh...

Still keeping in the vague direction of Austin and Morris cars, heres the Bus museum. And you thought you were all anoraks:

My brother's old car from the 80's; nice to see the old gal still on the road:

And finally, the hillclimb. Now I've seen a diesel Maestro van go up Brooklands hillclimb slope, I can die happy:

Excellent picturation / commentary.

The Mercedes-engined 'six' is interesting, in a 'why?' kind of way - What is the conceivable benefit of putting in a surely rarer, likely less powerful and presumably less tune-able powerplant in?

Excellent report M. Amazo.

The Morris engine would have been a sidevalve I think IKB, so the Ponton one is probably a better unit. But yes, a very odd choice unless it was done in nineteen sixty something.

Very much like this timeless photo.

MXA40 is interesting. A bit lairy for my tastes and I don't really like the arches. BMW M3 type flares would have been better probably. Really not keen on the advert for what it is across the back screen.... But it must be great fun.
Not Always Auto

Rootes built Cortinas under licence and just changed the badging.

The original engine (a 2.2 OHC six) was knackered and the swap was done a fair while ago according to the owner; its been detuned to suit the still-standard running gear.
