Francais 2014

Postby Spottedlaurel » Sun Aug 17, 2014 1:52 pm

A selection of the nearly 400 photos I've uploaded from my fortnight away:

ImageVW Beetle by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

First spot on French soil, hot A-framing action.

ImageRenault 19 Chamade by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

First entry on my Renault bingo numbers scorecard. Whilst I never did get house, I certainly got a line or two with some quite significant numbers ticked off.

ImageMG BGT V8 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Funny how things like this become vaguely more interesting when seen somewhere else.

ImagePeugeot 505 GTD by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImagePeugeot 304 Coupe by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageAlfa Romeo Giulietta 1.8 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

All these at the same garage, which older Streetview images show always has a range of interesting things (including Datsun 120Y as well as 'proper' classics).

ImageMercedes 280SE (W116) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageRenault 9 TSE by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageRenault 4 Car Systeme JP4 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

I did very well on buggy/kit type things this year. This was a new one to me.

ImageCitroen Mehari by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Case in point, though I usually see a few of these each year.

ImageRenault 5 Cabriolet by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Something else I'd never seen before.

ImagePeugeot 504 Cabriolet by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Classy.

Better submit this lot as a test before I do many more....

Thanks Seth. We stayed in Northern Brittany for a week, then Normandy (not far from Dieppe). All of the above, and a few of the following, were on the journey from Calais to the first place. We travelled on the Friday and stayed in a hotel on the way down to avoid too much autoroute travel, giving me the opportunity and time to find things like this:

ImageRenault 12 TL by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageRenault 12 TL by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

I'd have been happy enough to find this festering away in someone's garden or behind a rural garage, but to see it on the road? Amazing.

ImageTalbot Samba by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

First Samba I can recall seeing in France.

ImagePeugeot 205F Van by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Saw a few of these. Still don't know why they never sold them in the UK.

Image1990 Opel Corsa Steffi by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Image1990 Opel Corsa Steffi by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Saw quite a few odd special editions I'd never heard of before.

ImageBedford CF2 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Usually end up seeing a CF or two whenever we visit.

ImagePeugeot 405 GL and Renault 5 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Neither at all rare, but they made for a nice scene here.

ImageRenault Vel Satis/5/11 collection by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

And this lot were just across the road.

ImageRenault 5 Super Campus by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

I'd missed a 5 earlier in the day, with attractive Boutique alloy wheels, so good to find this one.

ImageOpel Kadett GTE by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Kadett interesting enough, but wish I knew what was in front of it.

ImagePeugeot J9 Recovery Truck by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Odd rear wheel arrangement on this thing, presumably with some sort of air suspension set-up.

ImageJust another garage forecourt by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Every garage needs a quick check, because of this sort of thing.

ImageHonda Prelude by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

A few good OJC's found this year.

ImageBack in the '90s by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Timewarp groupings like this were seen numerous times. Just up the road was this beauty:

ImageRenault 17 TS by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageRenault 17 TS by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

We saw this driving around later in the week, marvellous stuff.

ImagePeugeot 204 Saloon by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Ended up seeing three 204 saloons during our holiday, common as muck...

ImagePeugeot J9 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

This rear door arrangement is something I've never seen here. Probably suits some very French market or livestock transport requirement.

ImageRenault 16 TX by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

As was often the case with things I found, this was in the odds-and-sods yard belonging to a new car dealership. This particular one had a Floride undergoing restoration in their workshop, so hopefully there's a positive future for this 16.

ImageBack in the '80s by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Saw both of these when we stayed near this town three years ago, great to see them both still about. Was the only LNA I saw this time.

ImageAixam Mega Diesel by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageAixam Mega Diesel by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

I'll leave you with this obscurity for now.

Right, on we go.

ImageRenault 5 TL Laureate by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Have another 5.

ImageFord Escort Mk5 3dr by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

As unappealing in France as they are at home.

ImagePeugeot 205, Porsche 924 and Renault 5 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

The bonnet suggests a 16v conversion, but it could just be some low-spec model dressed-up.

ImageCitroen Xantia 2.0 HDi Ex-Ambulance by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

I suppose these make a spacious estate, without the connotations of a hearse.

ImageCitroen Visa 17 RD by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Perfect scene.

ImageHonda Prelude EX by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Another Prelude, lovely.

ImageLancia Delta LX by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Market day brought out some good stuff.

ImageVolvo 245 DL by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Dutch tourists in a Volvo #1.

ImageBedford CF230 Aristocrat Motorhome by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Another day, another CF.

ImageRenault 4 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

My best 4 sighting.

ImageNissan Urvan (E24) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

More of an Errgh-van.

ImageRenault Rodeo by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Never seen a Rodeo with this front end before. Renault 14 lights?

ImageMercedes E-Class Ex-Ambulance (W124) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

In the same vein as the Xantia.

ImageFord Sierra 1.6L by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Shame it wasn't a dangly-mirror job, but still a pretty rare sight. Only Mk1 I saw, and I didn't find many Mk2s this year either.

ImageRover 214Se 3dr and SAAB 96 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Old SAABs not too common in France. Plenty of these Rover 200/400s though.

ImageSaviem Panel Van by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

It's a MAVIE.

ImageRenault 18 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageRenault 18 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

That'll do for tonight. I'll leave you to ponder this one, so low-spec it doesn't even seem to warrant a badge.

Ace!

I assume that stable door type arrangement on the van is so French independent trader sorts can lift baguettes out of the back using the top door, without the risk of all the onions rolling out in to the road or snails escaping?

I think that covers most stereotypes. They should help keeping frogs in too.

ImageToyota Camry GL by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Wowee! Must be super-rare.

ImageAudi 100 CS by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

One of my favourite finds this year.

ImageToyota Camry 2.2 GL by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Yes! I'd seen another one of this generation earlier in the day.

ImageLancia Y10 junior by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

So, that's pretty much my first week done. Let's pack up and move onto house No. 2, a journey of about 250 miles....

ImageAlfa Romeo 75 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

I do hope this 75 managed to complete its journey with the rear window intact.

ImageMercedes S-Class (W126) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Got camber.

ImagePeugeot J9 Frites Van by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Need more chips.

ImageCitroen U23 Lorry by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Shame I wasn't around for the Festival Retro. Every year I hope to accidentally find a car show to go to, hasn't happened yet.

ImageToyota Celica 2.0 GT-i 16 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

What's he looking at?

Image1930 Citroen AC4 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Due to my incessant stopping we ended up overtaking this 3-4 times.

ImageRenault Alpine A310 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Good use of a Renault showroom.

ImageFrench Assortment 2014 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageFrench Assortment 2014 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

14! Whilst my family had lunch, I got photos of this lot. I'd seen this place back in 2010 and was so impressed I marked it in our atlas. Our route just happened to go that way, so I had to go and check what was there this time.

ImageRenault Juvaquatre Dauphinoise by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Juvaquatre display vehicle #1.

ImagePeugeot 104 GLS by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

104s a bit thin on the ground this year.

ImageFord Escort 1.6 Mk4 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageRenault 4 F4 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Still on our journey, it rained. A lot.

ImageRenault 11 x3 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Good crop of 11s this year.

ImageRenault 6 x2 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

2x6 = 12

ImageRenault 12 TL by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

1x12 = 12

ImageAnglophile's Collection? by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Living the dream. Maybe not my dream though.

ImageSimca Vedette Beaulieu by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageSimca Vedette Beaulieu by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

The journey seemed to take on quite a surreal quality at this point, seemed like there was something amazing around every corner. That's it for now though, stuff from the second week to come.

So far I've uploaded pic's from the first half of my trip. After a long day's drive to our second week's accommodation and a fairly remarkable haul perhaps I should just relax for an evening? No way! I might miss out on something....

ImageMG Metro Turbo by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Seen the odd A-Series example before, never one of these. Appropriate shade of Pogweasel pink for one of our biggest Metro fans on here.

ImageCitroen Mehari by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Basic. In a rather slapstick manner, I was so distracted by what might be in a field behind this garage that I walked into a signpost....

ImagePeugeot 204 Cabriolet by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

This poor old thing hasn't moved since we stayed in this town last year.

ImageLand Rover SWB Hardtop by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Odd.

ImageACL Renault Rodeo by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Sorry, another Rodeo.

ImageRenault Fuego Turbo by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

I think this is the first Fuego I've seen in France.

ImageLigier 162GL Microcar by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Ever wondered what a Rover 100 with cranial swelling would look like?

ImageCitroen GSA by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

My son alerted me to these ones. Sometimes I have to take the cries of "There's an old car" with a pinch of salt as it'll be yet another 309 or 19, but this was a good call.

ImageSaviem SG2 Truck by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Be nice to think of this still working for a living.

ImageToyota/Lada Garage by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageToyota/Lada Garage by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

This rather forlorn-looking rural garage revealed a few gems, to follow soon...

Nice to sit back and go through this thread form the comfort of home. You really have seen an inordinate quantity of good chod.

Thanks Seth.

More:

ImageToyota Cressida by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageLada 1500 Combi by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Neatly summarising what the signs said, these were festering away behind that garage.

ImageAssortment by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageToyota Land Cruiser 40 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

And some 4wds too.

Took a trip to Honfleur. Quite a touristy town, but good stuff still to be seen:

ImageLada 110 1.5Li by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Image1972 Volvo 142 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Dutch Volvo #2. Also saw an Amazon from NL.

ImageHyundai Sonata 2.0i (Y3) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

These look like one of those 'no-brand' models they sometimes use in adverts.

ImageLe Pont de Normandie (and Mustang) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Big bridge, big caravan, and a Mustang there too.

Juvaquatre display vehicle #2.

Image1957 Lambretta by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Scenic.

ImageVW LT Camper by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Fablon.

ImageToyota Land Cruisers by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

More Land Cruisers.

ImageACL Renault Rodeo by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Another bloomin' Rodeo.

ImageCitroen CX by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

CX playing hide-and-seek.

ImageRenault 4 GTL (4L Trophy) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Saw another of these 4L Trophy cars on the road. Basically a kind of charity banger rally/desert race for Renault 4s.

ImageMercedes 500SE by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Retired Merc.

ImageLada 112 1.5Li by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Another of those ungainly Ladas.

ImageRenault Alpine A110 Display Car No.2 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageRenault Alpine A110 Display Car No.1 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Display Alpines in Dieppe (where the factory is).

ImageMercedes 508D Motorhome by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

More holidaymakers.

ImageRenault 11 GTL Phase 2 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Wobbly 11.

ImageBMW 3-Series (E21) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Very tidy.

ImagePeugeot 205 XAD by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Only one of these I've seen on recent trips.

ImageFiat Croma 2.0 TDi by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageRenault 25 Turbo DX by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Barges.

Image1930s Garages by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageGarages 2-3 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

Saw these and thought Seth would like them.

ImageFord Granada 2.8 Ghia automatic by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

This was at a chateau, the sort of place that a brochure photoshoot might have taken place at when new, and it was as if they'd just left this one behind.

ImageNothing special on the outside... by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

This building contained tantalising glimpses of a few interesting things:

ImageTantalising Glimpse No. 2 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

ImageTantalising Glimpse No. 3 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr

It was for sale, wonder if the cars come with it?

And that's it.
