Another one from the Facebook group - Cobb's Corner probably around the late 70's. This is the top end of Sydenham. Left hand fork goes up to Crystal Palace, middle fork heads off to Dulwich if you take the South Circular and the right hand fork used to go down to works originating from the days when the Croydon canal system was there in the 1820's-1830's.

I think Cobb's originally used to be a local department store that went by the way some time in the early 1980's. As far back as I can remember it was always a bridal shop in the corner plot there. On the other side was a camera shop which went back donkey's years and finally succumbed to the modern economy in the late 2000's. Pretty much every old Sydenham resident was sad to see them go. I guess the digital camera era and the likes of the big online electronics outlets killed them eventually and it was even sadder to see it turn into another damn estate agents. The traffic island on the right is now a busy roundabout and the 12 bus has been replaced by the 122 and 176 routes.

My previous post, you can see the dome on Cobb's in the top left hand corner of this pic:

This pub had troubled times throughout the late 90's and early 00's and stood empty for a number of years. Then a developer bought it and got planning permission to convert the plot into flats on the proviso that they kept the original building because of its huge local historic significance. Well the developer 'accidentally' pulled it down a few months ago and, although the courts ruled that they had to put it back up exactly as it was, local reports say it's still an empty plot.

Same pub probably 100 years earlier:

Couple more, from GUESS WHERE. Also in Sydenham <- KEY CLUE

1) Looking into the carpark of the now demolished Greyhound pub. That Bedford (?) van looks pretty knackered which is good going for its potential age. This pic was reportedly taken in 1981 so the van must have been about 3-4 years old!

2) Treble Clef music shop. Quite popular back in the day and FAYMUS, LOL, with the members of this particular Facebook group. Pic must have been taken sometime in the early to mid 1990s judging by the weather conditions etc. That shop is now a car spares shop. Pretty sure I can make out the back of a beige Cortina estate and maybe an XJ6 and a Rover SD1 in this picture. Well that's what I want them to be anyway.

Fairly confident that the van is a Mk1 Escort, so could be between 6 and 12 years old at time of photography.
