Last, but not least, this was just jaw-droppingly beautiful. Had a quick chat with the owner who’d bought it in Texas with very low mileage, done a bit of an American road trip then brought it back home. Sounds good to me. Sadly it popped up on eBay only a week or two later , saying he’d lost his storage. Rather too much money for me to consider it...

Regrettably this shot hides its most distinctve feature, the smaller diameter twin rear wheels.

A great line-up of spots there, reminding me that I should get a bit more active again; I'll pack the camera when I head out in a bit. Impressive stuff to see that plastic Citroen in France only days before it was in Harrogate. I hope that somehow the owner will get to see the image.

That Mazda E1600 is probably of most interest, since I actually spotted one at a car boot sale in York 3-4 years ago!Don't remember the Cortina-alike front wheels though. The owners had a stall and the van itself was hideously wobbed up and the tax had only a couple of months left to run and I remember wishing I'd managed to get a photo. Had the twin wheels too - were they the only Japanese panel van sold in the UK like that? A very common site here on Japanese import Hiaces of the 90s and even used on more modern Nissan Vanettes, like this one below:



I'm assuming they offer a greater laden weight than the standard models with single rear wheels but would you really buy such a small panel van to carry heavy loads?

Interesting, didn't realise/had forgotten that other Japanese vans came with that arrangement. Great to know one survived here until as recently as 3-4 years ago, I think we only got the facelift model like this one:

Was also a Bongo in Japan, but still with this unequal wheel arrangement. I believe the USP isn't so much weight but a completely flat floor.

403 is nice but I'm more drawn to that 404 Convertible. Its not a body style I'm normally that fond of but I think those things have a high Franco-Italian cool factor.
