BEST of BRITISH

Postby I.K.Brunel » Sun Aug 05, 2012 5:21 pm

Over the last week some discussion in the SCATCHAT box had occurred over this annual CHOD-FEST that takes place in Peterborough annually, so I decided to give it a go.
Weather forecast was for some dreadful rain, but I figured that the weatherman may have got it RONG*, so I packed up the camera, pack-a-macks and younger son and hossed up the A1 to Peterborough, only to be greeted by a torrential thunderstorm. Great!
That didn't last so we pottered around having a look at some PREMIER LEAGUE BORING OLD CARS, in the excellent company of messrs Barrett & Cox. After an overpriced lunch and yet another downpour I braved getting the camera out...

SD1's were abundant!

This one had a bonk on the nose judging by the bumper, but the childish joke potential of the numberplate meant I snapped it anyway:

I like the spotlights, I have some of those in the cupboard waiting for a good* use.

I like the Mk2 'face' better, everyone will probably disagree.

When we arrived there were loads of FWD & RWD trumpets in this area, but by the time I got back to do 'angry stance' photos they had all gone. So you'll just have to imagine it, OK?

This princess was truly remarkable in so far as it was ABSOLUTELY MINGING, gaping hole in the bottom of the windscreen pillar, wavey sills and several holes/outbreaks in structural-looking areas. I assume it had made it's way here by means other than the public highway...

Then it propper pissed it down and most of the cars went home. So we did too. Hopefully some other members will be able to fill in some of the gaps later...

Some of my more interesting/better snaps from today, the RUBBISH weather had rendered many more of them useless sadly.

EUGH, this was unbearably grim! To be fair, this was my first experience of the true misery of a properly wet old car show which is surely some sort of right of passage or soemthing.

This is pretty much the only photo I took. Love the one on the left. Might be my new favourite A60 (sorry SK) actually

As soon as we left it got REALLY hot and turned into a lovely day, of course. We saw loads of chod on the journey there and back but this - the second Electron Minor I spotted today! - was obviously the highlight and sort of made the whole day worthwhile

Hoow do I go to my thread ? How do I find my forum ? Howdo I go to the page I am typing?

Nice pictures everyone. I'm kind of glad I didn't go looking at the weather you had. As a show it may suffer more than most from having the same cars each time so perhaps its best not to go year in year out. Autojumble has always been worth a good look but again I imagine the wet put paid to a lot of that. IKB junior needs to put more effort into an appropriate 'look' for standing in front of BL chod though. Too much smiling. 3/10
Not Always Auto

Rootes built Cortinas under licence and just changed the badging.

Quite, far too much excitement.
We had concurred over lunch that we would seek out a FWD Triumph so he could do "that pose", but by the time we came back from eating overpriced sausage sandwiches they had all run away, :?

The blue 1300 (LJF 673F) is mine. By quarter past two I'd got fed up of sitting in a pissing wet field, sorry!

Shame really because it was fab weather going down there and most of the way home. Turnout was certainly down on previous years.
